From its pilot scheme in the 1950’s, the Duke of Edinburgh’s award has gone from strength to strength. It is now a worldwide success, giving young people from the age of 14-25 the opportunity to gain valuable skills; getting involved in voluntary community service, after school sports and activities. The three awards, Bronze, silver and Gold encourage all these skills as well as exploring the great outdoors in challenges designed to push them mentally and physically.

The key part of the awards is the planning and participation in an expedition in the countryside to locations such as Dartmoor and the Lake District. During these hikes young people learn skills like orienteering, finding a suitable location to spend the night, pitching a tent and outdoor survival.
Mountain Warehouse provides a wide range of affordable and lightweight tents, rucksacks, sleeping bags and many more items that anyone attempting this challenge will require.
