Victoria & Rob
Taking part in The Great North Swim in Lake Windermere, the largest open water swimming event in the UK. It also involves an international Elite Race. Rob swam 2 miles and Victoria swam 1 mile.
Very few tidal pools still exist in the UK. FoBSP took on the management of the Pool in 2012 due to Council cuts and must now fund its staffing, repair and renovation from sponsorship and donations. We are helping to raise funds for vital repairs to the Pool's sea wall which will cost around £25,000 to ensure it can remain open for all to enjoy.
Training began at the beginning of the year and we then started training in the Bude Sea Pool at the start of May when the water temperature was only 9 degrees! This was important for acclimatising to cold water temperatures in preparation for Lake Windermere. We trained five times a week with training sessions ranging from sprints to endurance; in the swimming pool; sea pool and the lake. Eating right and taking rest days was also key in ensuring we were successful. Brilliant experience!
