Lucy climbed Kilimanjaro in June!
Raising money for: Alzheimers Society
Chose to climb the Rongai Route of Mount Kilimanjaro. The trek includes six days of trekking in all kinds of weather, on all kinds of terrain. The trek ascends to 5895m, summiting at Uhuru Peak.
My grandfather suffered from Alzheimer's and my family took on the task of caring for him at home rather than send him to a care home. Alzheimer's is a truly difficult illness to come to terms with for all those affected and all funds raised towards the charity works to help with this as well as researching the disease.
I took on the challenge in June, and unfortunately suffered badly from altitude sickness and was unable to reach the summit. Despite suffering from the effects of altitude, I managed to reach Kibo Hut camp which is situated at 4700m, before it was advised that I descend. I may not have succeeded in getting to the summit, but it does not diminish my achievements. I am proud of what I have done and would recommend the experience to anyone. It was an incredible and extremely memorable experience.
