Monte Rosa Trek
September sees the 70th anniversary of my grandfather's escape from prison camp in Italy and over the Monte Rosa to Zermatt. The challenge is to recreate his amazing effort.
The Monte San Martino Trust was set up to provide scholarships to the children of those Italian families that at great personal risk helped the allied prisoners to escape.
The trek will be arduous and at high altitude with the teams roped together 3 to a guide. We will spend several nights in mountain huts and traverse the highest pass of the Monte Rosa massif at over 4000m before descending the Grenz (Man-eater) glacier into Zermatt.
