Top Gear Visits Abergavenny

19.01.2012 | News

Presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May caused chaos while excited fans flocked to watch them driving customised scooters, even challenging a member of the public to a race. The scooters had been modified including one with six wheels and another with a power chair and tank tracks, rather than wheels.

Being a scooter user themselves a local resident joked with Hammond that she could go faster than him. The challenge was set with a race down the road finishing at the Abergavenny Mountain Warehouse Outdoor clothing store with Hammond losing out twice!

A Mountain Warehouse employee said of the race, it was great fun; the Top Gear guys were really friendly.

The trial appeared to be a success, with only minor collisions witnessed. A couple of cafe chairs and a small dent in a wall, Clarkson even took some time out in his scooter to do a spot of shopping.

There is no indication when the sequence will be shown on TV, but it certainly caused a buzz in the town centre as shoppers had to dodge the three presenters racing through the town
