Waterproof Fabric
If the jacket states that the fabric is waterproof this means that it has a waterproof membrane or coating that prevents water droplets from penetrating through the fabric, therefore creating protection from the elements. This fabric is also windproof, however please note that although the fabric is waterproof, without having taped seams water may still seep through any stitched areas of the garment, and consequently the garment will not be fully waterproof.
Water Resistant Fabric
If the jacket states that the fabric is water resistant this means that the fabric has been treated with a water repellent finish to allow rain water to roll off its surface easily and therefore it offers protection from light rain shower only.
Taped Seams
If a jacket has been finished with taped seams this means that the seams have been sealed to stop rain seeping through the waterproof fabric and into the garment through the stitched areas. Taped or welded seams are used to make the garment fully waterproof.
