It all started with a simple yet frustrating problem: I could never find a decent cup of coffee when we were out walking as a family. Whether we were hiking through the woods, exploring new trails, or just enjoying a day out in the countryside, I was always faced with the same disappointing choice. I could either settle for coffee from a flask, or lug around a jet stove, gas bottle, and a bulky cafetière that took up far too much space in my rucksack. Neither option was ideal, and I knew I wasn’t the only one struggling with this dilemma.
As an automotive engineer and someone who loves spending time outdoors with my family, I couldn’t accept that coffee was something I should have to compromise on. I wanted the same great coffee we enjoyed at home, no matter where our adventures took us. So, I set out to find a solution.
I started experimenting trying different brewing methods, testing gadgets, and figuring out what would work best, not only for our family walks but for work too. I knew I needed something compact, portable, and most importantly, something that didn’t compromise on quality and flavour. After plenty of trial and error (and more than a few setbacks!), I finally found the answer. It was easy to carry, quick to use, and brewed the kind of coffee that tasted just like it did at home.
That’s when The MUD Co. was born. What began as my own frustration turned into a mission: to help families like mine enjoy great coffee, no matter where the trail takes them.
