All of our tents are made from waterproof fabric which has a membrane that prevents water droplets from penetrating in. To find out how waterproof the fabric of your new tent will be, check the hydrostatic head. Hydrostatic head refers to how waterproof the fabric is under testing, before it begins to penetrate the fabric. We test this by measuring an area of high water pressure versus depth of water. The more water that is pushed against the fabric without penetrating the fabric, the higher the hydrostatic head, therefore offering you a higher level of protection in wetter conditions. All our tents have a minimum level of 1500mm, with some tents with a higher hydrostatic head for more extreme conditions.

Most of our tents also have taped seams, where the seams of the tent are fully sealed to stop any water seeping through the stitched areas. Mountain Warehouse stocks three types of tents, Pop-Up, Monodome and Tunnel.

Pop-Up tents are lightweight and easy to pitch in seconds. Our Pop-Up tents are ideal for 1-3 people and are also ideal for kids to play in or have camp outs in.

Monodome tents are quick and easy to pitch, and are comprised of a metal domed frame with waterproof fabric, creating the single dome shape and come with a sewn in groundsheet for convenience. Both our monodome and pop-up tents are ideal for festivals and shorter camping trips.

Tunnel tents are perfect for families and larger groups camping and are especially suitable for longer term camping trips and backpackers. Mountain Warehouse’s range of tunnel tents comes in 2 Man to 6 Man sizes, all with sewn in groundsheets and some additionally with detachable living area groundsheets. You can even stand up inside our larger tunnel tents, and they also have additional living areas.

Our 1-2 person tents are lightweight and ideal for backpackers and people on the go, or you could go for a 3-4 person tent which are perfect for smaller groups who want more space.

Our Family tents are ideal for larger groups and most of our family camping tents have a porch or vestibule area and a large inner area. This can be used for storing muddy hiking boots or alternatively, can even be used as a cooking area if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

There are different pitching styles depending on the type of tent. Our tents come in inner pitch and outer pitch styles. Inner pitch tents involve pitching the internal membrane first, and then fixing the external flysheet over the top. Outer pitch tent involve putting up the external shelter first, and then fitting or clipping the internal sections in, such as bedroom dividers. This excludes pop up tents which pop-up straight out of the bag and fold down after use. All Mountain Warehouse tents come with easy to follow instructions sewn into the bag.

Our tents come in both single and double skinned varieties, great for variable conditions, from a summer night to damp autumn and winter days. Single skinned tents are preferred for drier and warmer conditions, as they are comprised of a single layer of waterproof fabric, making them especially lightweight and cooler to sleep in during summer months. Double skinned tents have an extra layer of waterproof fabric to provide further protection from the elements, making them ideal for damper and cooler conditions, as the inner layer allows condensation to escape more easily allowing you to stay snug inside your tent, as well as providing another layer of insulation.

One of the most important things to consider when selecting your tent is how you will be transporting it. For those travelling in a car, a larger tent is no problem, but for a backpacker or those on the go, a smaller, lightweight tent is desirable.
