The complete care system for thoroughly cleaning, revitalising insulation and restoring water repellency to down clothing and sleeping bags. • Down Wash cleans, revitalises insulation and restores water repellency of hydrophobic and regular down clothing and sleeping bags • Down Proof is an easy to use wash in waterproofer which adds water repellency and revitalises insulation • Together they enhance the performance of your down gear, keeping you warmer and drier • Recommended for Nikwax Hydrophobic Down, Hydrodown and all other down clothing and sleeping bags Suitable for: Down jackets / Sleeping bags How to use: IMPORTANT: Use undiluted Down Wash.Direct® to treat stubborn stains before washing. Remove all non-washable parts. Shake well before use. Follow item care label instructions. Do not use conventional detergents. Clothing: • Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser. • Place maximum of 1 garment in washing machine. • Add 100ml. • Run a 30°C synthetic cycle on a slow spin, with an extra rinse if possible. Sleeping Bags* (8kg+ washing machine): • Remove all detergent build-up from the detergent dispenser. • Place maximum of 1 item in washing machine. • Add 100ml for 8-11kg machines. For 12kg machines use 250ml, for larger 25kg+ machines use 500ml. • Run a 30°C synthetic cycle on a slow spin, with an extra rinse if possible. Drying: Do not dry before waterproofing. If care label allows, tumble dry according to manufacturers instructions on a low setting until “clumps” have disappeared. This may take multiple drying cycles. Teasing apart clumps by hand between drying cycles will help restore the loft more quickly. *Sleeping bags and very large jackets are best hand washed in a bathtub or equivalent, or washed in a large professional machine at a laundromat. Sleeping bags and very large jackets are best hand washed in a bath or equivalent and then spin dried in a washing machine. • For a maximum of 1 item: Add 100ml to 12-15L of warm water. • Immerse item and agitate to mix, ensuring complete wetting. • Leave to soak for 5 minutes, then agitate thoroughly. • Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear. • To remove excess water transfer item(s) to a washing machine and spin dry 3 times (slow spin) Drying: Do not dry before waterproofing. If care label allows, tumble dry according to manufacturers instructions on a low setting until “clumps” have disappeared. This may take multiple drying cycles. Clothing: • Add 150ml of Down Proof to detergent dispenser. Sleeping bags (8kg+ washing machine): • 150ml for 1 season bags (0.8kg- 1kg) • 300ml for 2-3 season bags (1.1kg – 2kg) • 500ml for 4 season bags (2kg – 2.5kg) Nikwax Down Proof can also be applied by hand… IMPORTANT: For best results always clean item(s) first with Nikwax Down Wash Direct®. No need to dry item(s) before waterproofing. Shake well before use. Follow care label instructions. Wear gloves. Clothing: • For 1 item – use 150ml in 7.5L of water. 2 items – use 300ml in 12-15L of water. • Immerse clean item(s) in warm water and agitate to mix, ensuring complete wetting. • Rinse in cold water until water runs clear. Sleeping bags: • For 1 item – use 300ml in 12-15L of water. • Agitate to mix, leave to soak for 5-10 minutes, then agitate thoroughly. • Rinse in cold water until water runs clear. Repeat process, drain and gently press bag to expel excess water. If care label allows, tumble dry according to manufacturer’s instructions on a low setting until ‘clumps’ have disappeared. Teasing apart clumps repeatedly during drying process will help restore loft to the down. To maintain waterproofing always wash with Nikwax Down Wash Direct®. Do not use detergents. Make sure to thoroughly dry your down filled gear… To get the maximum amount of water out of your down it’s best to spin dry multiple times, each time incrementally increasing the speed of the spin cycle. Wet down is heavy, so if items are spun too quickly while still holding a large amount of water it is possible that internal baffles may be broken. Nikwax Down Proof treated items need no heat to develop water repellency. However, tumble drying is recommended (if care label allows) to ensure that the down is dried thoroughly and as quickly as possible. Leaving down wet or damp can ruin it completely. Tumble dry according to manufacturer’s instructions on a low setting until clumps have disappeared. Ensure that there is sufficient room in the tumble drier to house the item once dry, as items will return to their original size during the drying process. Teasing apart clumps repeatedly during drying process will help restore loft to the down. After tumble drying it is recommended to air item(s) for at least a day in a warm and dry space, prior to packing away.
