Animal’s story began back in 1987 in the South-West when two surfers designed their first product, the ‘Hook and Loop’ watch strap, quickly gaining recognition within the surfing and action-sports community. It was here that the Animal name was born and an iconic adventure began.
Over the past three decades Animal has built on their board-sports heritage and have grown to become a leading lifestyle clothing brand. Animal’s in-house design team create authentic, effortless looks for the free-spirited that combine their passion for adventure with timeless style.
Fast forward to today and they are passionate about the Animal way of life; a life well-lived and immersed in nature. So, they’re on a mission to be kinder to the world around us and become an even more eco-aware brand. Animal have changed how they design and make their products, improving their quality and using more responsibly sourced materials to develop more sustainable clothes that will last the ride.
Not only do the majority of Animal’s products now contain organic cotton or recycled materials, but they have also partnered with established sustainable brands like PrimaLoft® which is a synthetic alternative to down insulation. Animal also use PRIMALOFT® GOLD INSULATION LUXE™ which is made from 100% post-consumer recycled material.
Animal are also working with REPREVE® on many of their swimwear styles. REPREVE® recycles plastic bottles and waste to make polyester fibre, which in turn can be spun to make fabric. Animal uses a special kind of REPREVE® called REPREVE® Our Ocean™, which uses fibre and resin from plastic bottles that are at high risk of entering our oceans.
As part of Animal’s commitment to invest in the future of surfing, they have teamed up with three up-and-coming professional surfers – Emily Currie, Logan Nichol and Sam Hearn –, sponsoring them as they compete in events.
Animal also sponsors the Animal Pro (QS1,000) competition at Boardmasters festival. Boardmasters combines music and surfing for an epic weekend every August in Cornwall. During Boardmasters weekend, Fistral beach transforms into a bustling surf festival and a pop-up Animal shop can be found right in the heart of it!
