As many of you know, this year we re-launched our successful Charity Challenge competition with an increased prize donation of £10,000 up for grabs. Better still, this year’s competition attracted over 400 entries and over 60,000 social media shares. Amazing!
The winner of the Mountain Warehouse Charity Challenge 2014 competition in the public vote category, winning a £5,000 donation for their chosen charity, is Tracey Ames, who took on the Big Dipper – a 1 mile long, 500ft high zip line at Zipworld in Snowdonia – to raise money for Greyhound Gap. Greyhound Gap is a small independent charity that aims to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome greyhounds. The charity is funded almost entirely by donations and looks after up to 60 dogs at any one time – successfully rehoming around 150 dogs each year.
The 2014 Mountain Warehouse Charity Challenge also offered prizes for Three Peaks Challenge and Kilimanjaro challengers, as well as Help for Heroes fundraisers. The winners of the £2,000 Help for Heroes prize, chosen by the charity, are Mark Hagan, who completed a 100km trek across the Sahara Desert, and Lynsey Fitzpatrick, who will this year climb all 282 of Scotland’s Munros, which are over 3000ft high. Both winners will each receive a £1,000 donation towards Help for Heroes.
The £2,000 prize for the Kilimanjaro challenge went to Edwin Hicks, who climbed Kilimanjaro in September in aid of Weston Hospicecare, and the winner of the £1,000 prize for the Three Peaks Challenge category is Gavin Hughes. Gavin climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Mt Snowdon with 7 others in under 24 hours in June this year in aid of RNLI’s Andy Cantle Forever by the Sea Fund.
Our Founder, Mark Neale said, “I’m thrilled with the response to the Charity Challenge this year. We’ve had some fantastic entries from real outdoor enthusiasts taking on some brilliant challenges. It’s great to see the prize money going towards such great causes. Well done to the winners and all who entered.”
Thank you to all those who entered our Charity Challenge this year and congratulations to the winners!
