How to keep fit in winter

21.10.2014 | Hints & Tips

We all know how hard it is to stay motivated for fitness during the winter. It’s dark, cold and all you want is a hot bath, a cup of tea and a lie on the couch, but we’ve put together some easy tips for how to keep fit this winter…

Hit the gym after work

You can stay warm in the comfort of a gym or health club and still keep fit after work. Head to the gym before you head for home – you know you won’t want to go once you’re snuggled up on the sofa! Make sure you pack your gym gear, a snack for afterwards and a bottle to fill with water to keep you hydrated.

Winter walks

Even though it’s freezing cold outside, the landscape, especially if you live in the countryside, can be beautiful – often even more so than in summer! Throw on some warm clothes, preferably your waterproof jacket and your walking boots, and head out for a walk for an hour or so. Better yet, if you have a dog, they’ll thank you for it!

Book a winter getaway

Skiing, cycling or hiking are all popular winter activities and great ways to stay fit and active in the colder months. Book a weekend getaway, head to the slopes and enjoy yourself! You’ve been working hard all year…you deserve it.

Group activities

Dancing, yoga and boot camp are all great activities to keep you in shape and are always made better with friends- that way you can motivate each other. Get a few friends together and add one of these evening activities to your weekly routine once or twice a week.

Swimming

Most gyms or health clubs have an indoor pool that’s heated, which can be just the break you need from the chilly weather. Head to the pool 2-3 times a week to stay in tip top condition over the winter months.

Take the stairs

Make little changes to your lifestyle, like taking the stairs instead of the elevator and walking into town instead of getting the bus, these can be ideal to keep you fit and healthy in the winter.

Whether you’re hitting the slopes, gym, pool or dance hall, stay motivated and keep fit this winter!
