If you've ever pitched your Monterey 4 Air on rocky ground or dealt with a punctured groundsheet, you'll appreciate what this footprint does. It's a proper protective layer that sits between your tent floor and whatever surface you're camping on. Made from double-coated waterproof polyethylene, it's shaped to match your Monterey 4 Air's groundsheet profile exactly at 380 x 240 cm. The material handles sharp stones, thorns, and rough terrain whilst adding a bit of extra insulation against cold ground. At 0.38kg, it won't bulk out your kit much, and it comes with its own carry bag plus pegs for securing it down. Getting it set up is straightforward. Lay the footprint out first, peg it down, then pitch your tent over the top. The key thing here is making sure none of the footprint sticks out beyond your tent's edges - any overhang just funnels rainwater underneath, which defeats the whole point. When it's positioned properly underneath, it keeps moisture away from your tent floor and stops dirt working its way through the groundsheet. After muddy trips, the polyethylene coating wipes clean easily enough. It's one of those bits of kit that seems like an optional extra until you've camped without one and realised how much wear your groundsheet takes. Your tent's already a decent investment, so protecting it makes sense.
