The Dometic CFX5-55 is a 55-litre portable compressor coolbox that'll freeze down to -22°C whilst using less power than a standard lightbulb. It's built around Dometic's VMSO3 variable speed compressor, which automatically adjusts its cooling power based on what you need. When you first switch it on or load warm food, the turbo mode kicks in to bring temperatures down quickly, then it drops back to energy-saving mode once you're sorted. The battery protection system monitors your vehicle's power supply and cuts out before it drains too much, so you won't get stranded with a flat battery. You can run it from 12V, 24V or mains power, and there's even enough capacity for solar panels if you're planning longer trips off-grid. What sets this apart from cheaper coolboxes is the proper cooling technology. There's no messing about with ice packs or limited cooling range. The extended evaporator runs along all the inner walls, which means more even temperature distribution and better use of the 55-litre capacity. The ExoFrame construction with reinforced corners and fender frames protects the unit when you're loading and unloading or driving on rough tracks. The CFX5 app (works via WiFi or Bluetooth) lets you check and adjust the temperature from your phone, which is handy when the coolbox is mounted in an awkward spot. It'll also alert you if you've left the lid open. The high-resolution colour display shows your temperature settings, battery voltage and connection status. There's a USB port built into the display panel for charging devices, plus a removable wire basket and divider to keep things organised. At 20.2kg empty, it's manageable for two people to lift using the spring-loaded aluminium handles.
