Ember Double Sleeping Bag

The Vango Ember Double is one of those sleeping bags that just makes sense for family camping trips. It's a proper double bag rated for 2-season use, which means you're looking at spring through autumn camping without freezing your socks off. The TOG rating of 7.5 gives you a decent level of warmth, and with comfort temperatures down to 9°C, it'll handle most UK camping nights comfortably. What I particularly rate about this bag is the integrated headrest. Sounds like a small thing, but after a few nights sleeping on camping mats, you'll appreciate that bit of extra cushioning. The square shape gives you loads of room to move about, which is brilliant if you're not a still sleeper. At 148cm internal width and 208cm length, there's proper space for two adults up to 190cm tall. Vango's used their Polair polyester fabric for both the shell and lining, which is surprisingly tough considering how soft it feels. It's machine washable too, which matters more than you'd think when you've got muddy festival gear or kids who've spent the day exploring. The ThermoLock insulation uses a mix of siliconised hollow fibre and polyester fill that holds its loft pretty well, even if things get a bit damp. The two-way zip is genuinely useful for ventilation on warmer nights, and the twin zips mean you can get in and out without disturbing whoever's next to you. It packs down to 53cm x 32cm diameter in the included stuff sack, weighing 2.5kg, so it's not ultralight backpacking gear but perfectly manageable for car camping, campervans or caravan trips. Worth noting it's been independently tested to ISO 23537-1:2016 standards, so those temperature ratings are reliable rather than optimistic guesswork.
