Groundsheet Protector Sierra/Harris/Avington

This groundsheet protector does exactly what it says on the tin, it sits underneath your tent to shield the sewn-in groundsheet from damage. Works with the Vango Avington Flow Air 500 and Avington Flow 500 tents. You get two separate sections in the pack: one for under the main sleeping area and another for the porch space. The PE material is tough enough to handle stones, thorns and the general rough stuff you find on pitches, but it's not some miracle fabric. It'll take the brunt of sharp objects that would otherwise puncture or tear your tent's base. At 2kg total weight, it's not adding much to your load, and it packs down into its own carry bag at 54cm long. Here's where it actually proves useful: you can lay it out first to check your pitch position before wrestling the tent out of its bag. Realise you're on a slight slope or too close to a guy rope anchor point? Just shift the protector and start again. When you're packing up, especially after wet weather, your tent groundsheet stays relatively clean because it's been sitting on this rather than mud or grass. The PE wipes clean easily enough with a damp cloth. It won't stop condensation from underneath or make your pitch warmer, but it does mean less scrubbing of your tent at home and fewer worries about small punctures from hidden stones.
